First time here, and our waiter, Blake, kicked ass! His knowledge on the menu was perfect for me having Celiac's disease. He was also very friendly and helpful with vegetarian options! When I am in Steamboat again, will totally come back.

I came hungry to this restaurant. The service was pretty good. Things i ordered were served timely manner although it took a lil while for my ice tea. However my waiter was nice enough to serve the tea as complimentary. Ordered their miso ramen and Chicken sriracha ( on appetizer menu). I was not too sure if they would came out delish and authentic as i didnt see any asian (waiter or cook) in the horizon. I am glad that my miso ramen was super yummy. The broth was prefection and the chicken was real spicy, even for my asian rate. So i am very pleased with this restaurant.

It was a let down for me. Super cute ambiance and very good service started things going in the right direction. Sadly they were out of most of the menu items that appealed to me ~ no salmon, no octopus, none of the sake we preferred. Tried to start with a seaweed salad that really didn't hit the mark, huge portion, mediocre taste. They brought everything at once which didn't make sense. Hubby's 'appetizer' came when we were 1/2 way done with entrees and was lacking flavor. The sushi itself wasn't bad, but too many missteps in missing items and food timing for me. I will say they took the 'appetizers' off the bill without asking so maybe this was just an off night for them. Extra star for great service.

I'm a major foodie if you can't tell by my reviews, and all I can say is that I found the best restaurant that Steamboat has to offer. This is what I would call the NOBU of Steamboat. Run, don't walk and make sure you try the the Emma farms 100% pure Wagyu beef. Ben, Aaron and Eric took amazing care of us as we sat at the chef's bar. This is also the recommended place to sit. 5 thumbs up rating.

Don't come here if you're really hungry because service is extremely SLOW.... There didn't seem to be enough servers to be attentive to tables. We waited at least 20 minutes for ramen, sushi, tofu, and steamed buns. All of which came to the table at once. They should have at least brought out the smaller plates earlier. I had high hopes for this place but was severely disappointed. The food was mediocre and priced on the high side. I think the food should have been better for the amount that's being paid. I ordered the pork shoulder steamed buns. I was excited for it because I like steamed buns and was hoping for a modern twist. They were extremely dry. I was disappointed. I also ordered the agedashi tofu. It was OK. I thought the plate presentation was a bit much for a tofu dish. Keep it simple and tasty. I found it hard to eat the mushrooms with the pickled daikon and the dashi flakes. I would not come here again as it was the most dissatisfying meal I've had in Steamboat Springs. The decor inside is pretty neat though. And they do have a pretty nice wine bar.

Waited 36 minutes for our first order and 42 for our second order. I am from Steamboat and I was so disappointed and furious with our treatment. The sushi was good but $200 for the 4(only 2 drinking) of us with awful service ruined the night. I don't mind paying for great food, but bad service means I won't be back.

We found this restaurant to have a modern twist on sushi. They have some fabulous rolls and sashimi. While the menu isn't huge, it is very fulfilling. Decor is earthy modern with a touch of quaintness. I suggest a visit if you are coming to Steamboat for a get away.

Some of the food was good and the rest was over priced garbage we could have got at chillis. They were late on our reservation. Then they crammed all of us at a table like sardines. We couldn't even move elbow to elbow. The place wasn't even packed so giving us no room to eat and enjoy ourselves was confusing. Our waitress came off unattractive while she gave us horrible service and pushed dinner items on us that were the most expensive on the menu. We took her advice just to be heavily disappointed. They told us they ran out of beer and had to go get some and that was after we sat there with no drinks for 25 mins. When the drinks came, they were the wrong drinks!!!! The food is not worth the high price tag on the menu and the service gets 10 thumbs down. We all went home starving and ended up eating again because we were un satisfied by our experience

This restaurant is fantastic. The food is incredible, simply prepared and truly delicious. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong. Everything from the miso soup to the hamachi, salmon and steamed buns (loved the shitake mushroom) is exceptional. The staff is accommodating, efficient and knowledgeable. Sit at the chef's bar that looks into the kitchen if at all possible -- best seat in the house. I'd give this restaurant top rating. This was the best meal I've had this year!

Finally - legit Japanese food in Steamboat! We sat at the chef's bar and were very impressed by the kitchen staff's attention to detail and precision. The sushi was perfect - tightly rolled and didn't fall apart, and just enough rice. Sashimi was inventive and fresh. The spicy ramen was great, and the egg was perfectly poached and creamy, but the broth was pretty salty (I know that's probably how it's supposed to be). The service was friendly and attentive. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

Imaginative small plates with ramen comfort food! I messed up my OpenTable reservation and showed up the day after what I had reserved but they couldn't have been nicer about accommodating us during a busy early evening -- lucky for us, the only opening they had was at the chef counter and we had a blast talking to Ben and Aaron and watching the entire kitchen staff at work! The small plate starters were creative and fun -- the fried rice balls were deceptively tasty, the JFC (Japanese fried chicken) had quite a kick, the okonomiyaki egg pancake was just as much fun to eat as to say, and the pork belly small buns were a welcome change from the typically heavier hoisin variety. Oh, and their special sushi roll combining spicy walu, avocado and striped marlin with a mango sauce was one more example of "something different" ... and delicious. Did I mention the ramen bowls? Although there are only three options, they're very different so there's something for everyone. The sous vide poached eggs were perfect and the broth rich without being overly salty. Will definitely be back for more!

Good food - not great. Ramen is good and so is sushi. But service is very temperamental. Can't seem to handle a crowd at all.

We are always cautious when a new restaurant comes to town because more often than not it is a disappointment. We had a delicious meal here. The Hamachi stood out as my favorite, my husband enjoyed the pork steamed buns. The atmosphere was lively but too loud, (sound absorption panels in the ceiling would be a good idea). We will be back.

We had the omakase New Years menu last night. Great food. Escolar was fantastic and even though the rest of the items were off the menu, we enjoyed the food. It is nice to see a creative Japanese restaurant opening at the base of the mountain. Also felt pricing is very reasonable for what we got. And they had a small but well-selected drink menu.

Yama, absolutely blew my mind. It was just what we needed after a long day on the slopes. On our first visit, Mary took care of us at the bar with great service and recommendations. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were very stylish and comfortable. Absolutely unmatched no matter where you are in the world. After dining around steamboat (and reading the other yelp reviews), we realized that the only place that we could go was, Yama. Only this time, we sat at the chef's bar. Ben, the sushi chef, and the Head chef took us on a whole dinner journey. Providing us with on and off menu items tailored to our tastes. I definitely look forward to returning to Steamboat and most of all, Yama.

Had the Omakase special for $75 each for four. Was somewhat disappointed in it. I'm pretty sure we could have ordered off the menu for less (added everything up and is was about $250). I eat Omakase regularly and expect it to be the chef showcasing his best, not just a sampling of the menu. The only "special" (off menu) item of the evening was a small piece of escolar sashimi. The quality of what was served was ok but for an Omakase meal I expect it to be the best the chef can offer, if what we were served is their best then I'm not impressed. A gentleman who appeared to be the manager spent his whole night standing next to our table with his back turned to us talking to a couple at the "sushi" bar, it was not only distracting but we had to ask him to move several times to get up and out of our table to use the restroom and to leave. I give them four stars for service, three stars for food, two stars for value, zero stars for the manager being in our way with his back to our table most of the evening.

Hidden place down in ski square. Decided a break from steaks and potatoes. Pork belly buns, crispy pork shoulder on Japanese pancake, ramen in shoyu and kimchi spicy broth looked the same - good size serving all with par boiled egg and few slices of pork belly. The sushi rolls, octopus were okay. Best thing was their Yuzu tini - delicious!

An awesome disappointment. Glad we've been to every kind of Japanese restaurant in every type of town from small towns outside Philadelphia Pa to the center of SF and could play dumb and sample the featured roll without pressure , saying we would order as we go. We were treated like trash at Yama but that's fine, the Tuna special was Horrible, taste, texture, seasoning- aftertaste, got the check ASAP and ordered from a great place in town we've had the tuna ceviche twice in one day, without the mask of rice , soy, wasabi, ginger etc.. Poor menu selection, food quality and service. I didn't even mention that my chopsticks had remnants upon receiving them that hadn't made it through the dishwasher. I had to scrape them off and didn't make a deal because it's too easy to be perceived as a snob , no matter how casually you dress. Just be aware.
